Seminars and Test Dates

The Jow Ga Shaolin Institute is now presenting seminars on Jow Ga and Mizong forms. Seminars usually are a full day of training and have a fee to be paid in advance so equipment and instructors can be prepared.

Seminars for 2010

  • March 14, Sunday, Cha Style Broadsword, 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM
    Cha is one of the major styles of Chinese martial arts and greatly influenced contemporary wushu forms and techniques. The Cha style has some of the best weapon forms in the traditional kung fu arsenal. Anyone who wants to hone their broadsword skills will definitely benefit from this seminar. The form includes fundamental broadsword skills, plus jumping, spinning, slashing, thrusting, cutting, and parrying techniques. This is a must for all broadsword enthusiasts!
  • May 16, Sunday, Qingping Jian Seminar, 10 AM to 4 PM
    Qingping Jian is considered one of the crown jewels of Chinese swordsmanship. This seminar covers the first of six routines. Because this is an advanced form the seminar is suitable for anyone who already knows the routine, or for those with considerable experience with Chinese straightsword.
  • July 18, Sunday, Tai Chi Staff, 10 AM to 4 PM
    The staff is a basic weapon in Chinese as well as other martial arts systems. It can be used to help practitioners develop power and good body mechanics. The staff form that will be taught in this seminar comes from the Yang Ban Hou lineage is simple to learn, with many practical techniques. This seminar is suitable for beginners as well as advanced students, not only for those interested in tai chi but also for kung fu practitioners as well.
  • September 26, Sunday, Mizong Double Emei Pierces, 10 AM to 4 PM
    Emei Ci are metal spikes, with sharp points on both ends, that can be used to stab or be thrown. They are easily concealed, are usually used in pairs, and come with a ring in the center of the blades through which you can insert your middle fingers. This allows you to control as well as twirl the spikes to confuse or distract your adversary. Because the Mizong Emei Ci is an advanced double weapons form, it is most suitable for those who are already familiar with Chinese weapons.

Test Dates

Check below for the next date for forms testing at the Jow Ga Shaolin Institute Headquaters. Testing usually begin 1:30 P.M. on the day of the test. There is usually a two month wait between testing dates. There is a testing fee due at time of testing. At least 3 weeks before the exam date, students must get pre-tested by their instructors. This pre-test review includes stances, basics, self-defense techniques, forms and form techniques. Once the student is approved for exam, they can take their exams assuming the student addresses all recommedations of the reviewing teacher.
